A B O U T

Stone Soup
is a tea studio dedicated to wild-grown and naturally farmed teas. Based between Taiwan and New York, our work explores the relationship between land, craft, and the people who bring tea to life.
We work directly with farmers cultivating exceptional tea leaves in biodiverse ecosystems. We draw out each tea’s distinct character through precise oxidation and roasting that captures the vitality of their environment.

Stone Soup
aspires to nurture a renewed way of valuing and experiencing the craft of tea, honoring naturally farmed and wild-grown leaves for the vitality of their landscapes, the care of their cultivation and the depth of their character.

By championing practices that go beyond conventional or certified organic methods, we seek to create demand that rewards quality, supports farmers transitioning to regenerative cultivation and deepens appreciation for tea as a living cultural craft.

We embrace a living ecosystem in which every element supports and enriches the others. Provenance, cultivation, craft, preparation and sensory experience are not viewed as distinct dimentions, but continuous expressions of the same devotion to quality.

Honoring Origin

Our tea leaves reflect the soil, mountain and ecology of their provenance. Our focus on natural and wild-grown cultivation preserves biodiversity and gives the leaves their integrity.

Hand-tended Ecosystems

Our farmers follow regenerative practices and harvest tea leaves only by hand at their peak, sustaining the health of the land while preserving the unique character of each crop.

Craft as Expression

Through precise calibration of oxidation and roast, we draw out layered flavours and aromas that reveal the character of each batch. This expertise brings diversity and character to each of our teas.

Rituals of Connection

We honor the patient rituals of preparation that connect people with the land through tea, countering a culture of speed with practices intended to restore presence, appreciation and connection.

Sensory Wholeness

Our teas offer an embodied experience. Beyond their nuanced aroma and flavour profiles, they resonate through lingering mouth- and bodyfeel, grounding and enlivening those who drink them.

Tea cultivation methods can be plotted along a continuum.

Each stage represents a deeper and more integrated relationship between grower, plant and environment, bringing greater ecosystem vitality and expression of taste.

I)
Conventionally Farmed Tea

A controlled approach that prioritises
yield and uniformity, supported by
synthetic fertilisers and chemical
sprays.

II)
Organically Farmed Tea

A regulated method guided by natural
inputs such as composts, organic fertilisers, and plant-based treatments that steady the soil.

III)
Naturally Farmed Tea
*our baseline

A nurture-led practice with no external
fertilisers or sprays, allowing ecological cycles and soil life to sustain the plants. Tea plants are trimmed for the ease of harvest.

IV)
Wild-Grown Tea
*our highest tier

A coexistence within forest ecosystems
with no human inputs or interference, characterised by leaf litter, deep roots and undisturbed soil.

Stone Soup establishes naturally farmed tea as our baseline for quality and environmental impact, while celebrating wild-grown leaves as the highest expression of the craft.
Our oolong, white and red (black) teas are cultivated through practices that not only minimise impact but actively benefit soil and ecosystems. Pruned by hand and grown entirely without inputs – no fertiliser, chemicals or compost – the wildgrown or naturally farmed plants are free to follow their own natural cycles.

This results in a fuller, more expansive flavour profile and sensory experience far removed from the fleeting taste and narrow energy typical of conventionally or even organically farmed varieties.

Stone Soup sets its own benchmark for integrity – an open framework that replaces certification with direct, human proof built on shared trust and transparency.
Many small, independent tea farms work beyond the reach of international organic labels; our standard recognises and verifies their commitment to natural cultivation, and makes their integrity visible

I) Scientific VerificationIndependent lab testing (including SGS reports) confirms the absence of chemical residues, providing transparent, third-party verification of quality and safety.

II) Philosophical FoundationOur approach is rooted in the belief that farming in harmony with nature produces both better tea and healthier ecosystems. This philosophy guides every decision, from sourcing to roasting.

III) Community PartnershipThrough ongoing relationships with growers, we support fair partnerships and long-term sustainability, strengthening the ecosystems and communities from which our teas arise.

IV) Experiential TransparencyPartners and customers are invited to visit our farms, walk the land and witness cultivation methods firsthand – offering a transparent view into the care behind each leaf.

V) Storytelling InsightWe share the stories of our cultivators through words and images – revealing their craft, philosophy and environment so that each tea carries provenance and personality.

Together, these layers form the Stone Soup Standard – an evolving framework built on openness rather than perfection. It reflects a commitment to progress through transparency, testing and ongoing dialogue between growers, partners and drinkers. As part of this standard, we invite our community to ask questions, request information and share further ideas for how integrity can be measured and deepened.
